Power of Play - Art Week

It sure has been a colorful week here at AoHC!  The center has practically turned into an art gallery during Power of PLAY, Art week!
Art is a very beneficial form of play for many different reasons.  Working with materials such as crayons, scissors, paint brushes and play dough promote fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.  Creative activities help children develop attention skills and cognitive learning.  Creative expression provides many opportunities for expressing emotions and working through them to gain relief and understanding of them.  Engaging in art projects with friends helps children learn new vocabulary words as well as learn to associate pictures with words.

Below are some snapshots of the creative art play we had this week!

TASK News - Movement Week

It's movement week in TASK at AoHC!

Check out our Power of Play News blog!

Power of Play - Movement Week

We like to move it move it!  We have been talking about all sorts of movement this week at AoHC.
Movement and physical play helps their emotional, social, physical, language and cognitive development.

Children build confidence when they dance and move.  They build endurance and they have the opportunity to learn new skills.  Physical activities that involve playing in large groups teach children how to take turns, follow directions as well as how to support.

Both large gross motor and fine motor can improve when children play a variety of physical games.  Our students can use prepositions and direction when participating in movement activities; in front of, up or down and so many more!  Movement stimulates the brain and increases concentration, attention control and faster reaction times.

So get MOVING and PLAY!
