Infant Ice Cream Social

A special thank you to our Infant Pod for putting together our first "Infant Ice Cream Social." And a bigger thank you to our AoHC families for joining us Wednesday evening.

There's no better way to bring people together than with ice cream. It was a good time for our AoHC Infant teachers to get to know our AoHC families better and most importantly for our AoHC families to meet fellow AoHC families.

We get so busy throughout the week and we come and go throughout the week. This was a great time to sit and take a load off and just chat with fellow mommies and daddies on the same boat. And to enjoy yummy ice cream!

If you get the chance, pick up a monthly calendar out on the front desk and stay in the know for monthly activities and events throughout the month!

AoHC Butterflies

Here at AoHC, we were able to observe Painted Lady Caterpillars for about three weeks.

We watched them mature, change into chrysalises and finally emerge as beautiful butterflies.

Rearing live Painted Lady Butterflies is a fascinating way to study insect metamorphosis. When they became fully grown, we released them into our own little school backyard.

This was a fun way for everyone to experience first hand observing and understanding the miracle of metamorphosis with our AoHC families!

How to Teach Kids About the 4th of July

It's time to celebrate 4th of July with our families. Cookouts are in the works, the flags are up, patriotic recipes are planned for parties and even red, white and blue shirts are ready to wear. 

However there is one key element that's especially important for our kids-helping them to understand the history of this special day. Here are some ideas about how to teach kids about the 4th of July.

Talk with your child about the meaning of the 4th of July:

During this important holiday, talk to your child about what Independence Day means to you. The 4th of July, or Independence Day is a federal holiday that celebrates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Ask them what they already know and discuss the following questions.

• What is Independence Day?
• Why do we celebrate freedom?
• What are ways we can show our patriotism?

Discuss the meaning if the American Flag:

Talk about the meaning of the stars and stripes on the American Flag. Its fun to step back into history with kids and discover the various iterations of the flag that America proudly waves.

Teach Patriotic Songs to your Child:

Take the time to teach your child the patriotic songs like "The Star Spangled Banner," "America the Beautiful," "You're a Grand Old Flag." For older children, have them research the year these songs were written.

Honor Soldiers:

Independence Day is a great time to find local ways to honor soldiers in your community and also reach out to troops overseas to show your support and gratitude. Sending care packages, writing letters and placing flags all help to say "thank you" to our soldiers.

Read Books or Watch a Movie: 

Visit your local library and see copies of important documents such as the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Read stories about the Revolutionary War and how these events shaped the country that it is today. Also find movies the shows the celebration of patriotism and American History. PBS is a good program that incorporates many elements of Independence Day.

In closing, before firing up the grill and setting off the fireworks, lets take the time to teach our kids about 4th of July! It's a moment in time where we celebrate the United States and all the privileges that come with our freedom.

Kindergarten Boot Camo

Kindergarten Boot Camp is an exclusive eight week program that will have your cadet trained and ready for kindergarten in no time. Over the next few weeks, KBC will focus on important, yet often overlooked, skills needed to navigate kindergarten with ease. This program will be a learning experience for parents as well. We promise to help you through the process.

The cadets will focus on school safety, kindergarten routines, phonics/literacy, self help skills, character building and more!

DAILY ORDERS:

Monday: Wear KBC t-shirt/Cafeteria Day/Book in a bag checkout day

Tuesday: STEM focus

Wednesday: Game Day

Thursday: Wear KBC shirt/Cafeteria Day

Friday: Book in a bag returns/Water Day

Parents of KBC Kids: Check your daily tadpoles and monthly calendar for special guest and activities. Please make sure to check your child's take home folder for teachers communication and weekly take home activities.
