The Week of the Young Child

Last week was the child of the young child an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children celebrating learning, young children, their teachers, and families.

On music Monday the children developed math, language, and literacy skills whiles dancing with scarfs and being active. The kids loved dancing and singing throughout the day.

On taco Tuesday the kids got out the play food and used their imaginations to cook tacos for their class before getting to eat the real thing for lunch. Cooking together connects math with literacy skills science, and more. With the rise in childhood obesity, we can encourage healthy nutrition and fitness habits at home and in the classroom by including children in the process.

On work together Wednesday the kids got out the hula hoops and tried out the hula hoop challenge. When children work together they explore the cause and effect and natural curiosity concepts and develop their social and emotional skills. Even the little ones thought it was fun to give it a shot.

On Artsy Thursday the children got their creative juices flowing and created some awesome animals out of paper plates. Children develop creativity, social skills, and fine motor skills with open-ended art projects where they can makes choices, use their imaginations, and create with their hands.

Family Friday was a great night where our family could stop and make grilled cheese sandwiches together before they went home. Engaging and celebrating families is at the heart of supporting young learner.
