Power of Play - Math Week

1, 2, 3......It's MATH WEEK at AoHC!

The power of numbers and shapes can be very beneficial in early childhood education.  Recognition of numbers and shapes helps support the development of other number skills, such as counting!  Recognition of numbers and shapes also develops into more sophisticated abilities such as reading and writing.

So go ahead, ask your child, which one is bigger and which one has more.  Ask simple questions with props such as, "If you have 3 cookies and I take away 1, how many are left?"

Here are some fun ways we played with Math this week!

Infants learned shape and color recognition!

Toddler 1 read all about Dora and the shapes she finds on her adventures.

Preschool 2 made shape collages!

Preschool 2 also made patters with colored blocks.

Calendar helper was a big job this week!  Lots of counting involved!

Infant 3 had a shape wall to look and babble about!

PreK 2 made a graph of their favorite colored goldfish!

A shape and color wall also graced the Toddler 1 room!

Power of Play - Reading Week!

Who doesn't love a good book?!  All of the little ones here at AoHC loved learning about book and characters during POWER OF PLAY - Reading Week!
We saw a lot of stories being acted and played out as well!  Children build confidence by communicating with puppets or felt board pieces, some stories can even be used to help relate to a child's emotions! Puppets are fun and playful, but did you know that having the children use them helps improve their fine motor skills and hand eye coordination!?

Books are a great way to help children transition from one milestone to another, such as; starting school, moving, losing a pet or gaining a new sibling.  There are relevant children's books for almost every situation!

Check out some fun we had reading this week!

Power of Play - Construction Week!

A lot of tiny builders have been spotted around AoHC this week!  When children build and construct, they are using more than just their hands.  They are using skills such as learning how to work in a group and problem solving.  Building and creating also prompts children to become more creative and using a wide variety of words.  Little ones often tend to come up with names and stories behind their structures which broadens their language development.  We have also noticed that the students, big and small, become very socially savvy when they work on cooperative construction projects.

Check out some of our builders for this week!
